Padeswood concrete pour time-lapse
An all-day continuous concrete pour has been completed at Heidelberg Materials’s Padeswood works in Flintshire as part of our investment in new plant to improve the efficiency and environmental performance of our business.
Almost 900 cubic metres was laid to provide the foundations for a new vertical roller mill, purchased from a HeidelbergCement joint venture plant in Bilbao.
Three Heidelberg Materials plants provided the concrete for the continuous pour. Project manager Chris Sheady said “It was a huge effort from a team of people across the business and would not have been possible without the full support and commitment of all the drivers.”
The replacement mill will be capable of grinding up to 650,000 tonnes of clinker a year and will improve efficiency and reduce energy consumption. It is part of a £20 million upgrade at Padeswood which also includes investment in new rail loading facilities to allow cement to be delivered by train, reducing lorry movements.
