There has been a cement works at our Ketton site in Rutland for almost 100 years and it is now one of the most efficient plants in Europe.
The cement is used to make ready-mixed and precast concrete products, grout and mortar and is transported by bulk tanker to our own concrete plants or bagged and supplied to builders’ merchants.
A large proportion of the cement produced goes by rail to our own depot near King’s Cross station in London and it has been used in the construction of many of the capital’s major construction projects, including Crossrail and some of the iconic buildings in Canary Wharf.
Ketton cement works is supplied by our Grange Top quarry and employs over 250 people both directly and indirectly and many more in the supply chain. Our operations are also the single biggest contributor to business rates in Rutland.
In late 2023 we will be seeking planning permission to extend Grange Top quarry, to secure the long-term future of the cement works. See more about our proposals to extend Grange Top quarry
We actively support local initiatives and programmes which benefit the community and environment and Grange Top quarry has been included as a research site in our parent company Heidleberg Materials’ Quarry Life Awards, aimed at supporting and increasing biodiversity at mineral extraction sites.
