Gravel donation helps build school’s new spiritual garden

Our Batts Combe quarry’s donation of gravel helped to lay the foundations for Weare Academy C of E First School’s new spiritual garden.

The dedicated space will provide a peaceful retreat where children and staff can connect with nature, reflect and practice mindfulness.

Year 3 and 4 students played an active role in shaping the garden’s design, envisioning a tranquil area featuring birdhouses, wind chimes, plants and flowers, comfortable seating and water features.

The donation was made possible through the combined efforts of several local businesses. Simon Parkes, Unit Manager at Batts Combe quarry arranged the donation with our Whiteball Packed Products in Wellington, Somerset, and Scott Horsham, from Aldwick Services Transport, collected the material from Whiteball and delivered to the school free of charge.

Weare Academy Headteacher, Chelsea Dover, who made the initial request for support, said: “We are incredibly grateful for the donation of gravel, which has helped turn our vision into a reality, and we can’t wait for our pupils to enjoy this new space.”
