Passengers rescued in mock training exercise at Ketton

The emergency response plan at Ketton cement works was put to the test in a mock training exercise when two cars were crushed by the site shunting engine near the rail load-out, injuring five people.

Incident co-ordinator Andy Eastman said the exercise was a success with all the “casualties” rescued within an hour of the first call.

Emergency services from Stamford and Lincolnshire were first on the scene followed by crews from Melton Mowbray and a specialist team from Leicester. They cut the car roofs and doors away to rescue the passengers and then winched the locomotive off the cars.
