Padeswood Cement Works’ Annual Shutdown

Padeswood Cement Works’ Annual Shutdown is due to commence on 3rd January 2025 and is expected to last approximately four weeks.

Planned work for the shutdown includes the removal and replacement of refractory in both the kiln and some vessels of the pre-heater tower.

Removal of bricks from the kiln will require the use of the Brokk (a demolition robot). This activity is known to generate noise and so we will limit the use of the Brokk to between the hours of 7am – 10pm. Use of the machine will not be constant during these hours as it will be necessary to remove the wrecked material from the kiln as it is generated.

Replacement of refractory material will also be taking place in the pre-heater tower. Removal of this refractory involves the use of pneumatic breakers which can also generate noise. There are no time restrictions in place for this activity, but we are making efforts in the planning process to reduce any wrecking activity in the pre-heater tower between 10pm – 7am as far as possible. We have also committed to trialling new control measures for noise in the pre-heater tower during this shutdown. The majority of the refractory removal should be completed within the first two weeks of the shutdown. As mentioned above, wrecking activities will not be constant during this period of the shutdown.

Should there be any significant change to the shutdown plan we will update you further.
