Quarry’s starring role in TV drama
Penderyn quarry is to feature in bilingual TV crime drama Hidden after film crews spent five hours shooting key scenes there.
Three cars driving down the main haul road at dusk and a conversation at night in front of its disused processing plant were filmed by a production team of 30 for the series, called Craith in Welsh.
The episode will be on Welsh language channel S4C later this year with the English version on the BBC in 2020.
Manager Daniel James arranged for the visitors to complete a slimmed down induction before they arrived and worked with three colleagues to accompany them while they were on the south Wales site.
“It was interesting watching the scenes as they had to do them twice, in Welsh and in English,” said Daniel, who was contacted by the production company for permission to use the limestone quarry.
“They gave us a location fee and a charity donation, so we are splitting the £800 total between Mates in Mind and Penderyn Community Primary School, which is also bilingual.”
