Monument stones from Tytherington quarry add finishing touches to war memorial at Severn Beach
Our Tytherington quarry has donated three large monument stones for use in a local war memorial at Severn Beach, South Gloucestershire.
On completion, the memorial will consist of three oak pillars and plaques to represent each branch of the armed forces - the Army, Navy and Air Force, and is intended to provide a dedicated, local space for reflection and remembrance.
The project, led by a group of war veterans, has taken three years to develop. All materials have been donated by local organisations with works carried out by volunteer tradespeople and residents.
The unveiling ceremony is set to take place in spring next year, with veterans and armed forces personnel expected to be in attendance, as well as local council officials.
James Brown, Unit Manager at Tytherington quarry, said: “We’re honoured to contribute to such a meaningful project that also aligns with our company’s commitment to supporting the armed forces.”
As a forces-friendly employer, Heidelberg Materials has a number of employees who are members of the Army Reserves, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve and Royal Naval Reserve, and we continue to support them by giving them time off work for their required training throughout the year.
In May this year, we re-signed our Armed Forces Covenant, reaffirming our commitment to being a forces-friendly employer and a fair, respectful and inclusive company. Signing the covenant recognises that former service personnel offer a range of transferrable skills that can make an important contribution to our business.
