Hospice helpers’ team effort pays off

Donated materials and labour worth around £20,000 have helped improve a memorial garden at a children’s hospice in south Wales.

The redesigned grounds at Tˆy Hafan, in Glamorgan, were opened at a memorial service on June 30 after more than a year of work by supply partners of the Costain Vinci Joint
Venture.

Major projects manager Sean Hunter said the business was pleased to help with the community initiative. “We are one of Costain’s flagship suppliers in
the area and we made a sizeable investment in the improvements,” said Sean.

“Along with a surfacing crew and equipment, we provided 110 tonnes of asphalt and over 300 tonnes of aggregate for the main walkway and a wheelchair race track,
and 12 cubic metres of concrete for the foundation of a new boundary wall.

“It has been a real team effort across all business lines. With limited notice to complete the surfacing, contracts manager Richard Kopec did a good job.”

Most of the materials were delivered this year, with the stone coming from Forest Wood and Machen quarries, concrete from the Cardiff plant and asphalt from Penderyn.

Senior community relations manager for the joint venture Brian Greaves said the support was “tremendous”.
