Calstock in Bloom

We were delighted to support the Calstock in Bloom team in the Tamar Valley, Cornwall with the donation of the raw materials needed to build a Mediterranean-style community garden in readiness for the Britain in Bloom competition.

We donated aggregate from our Hingston Down quarry to build a dry-stone wall and footpath and provided gravel to improve the soil’s drainage.
Local school children created ceramic lizards and butterflies as part of their art and wildlife education, and the Calstock in Bloom team held a competition to name the bug hotel, with the name ‘Bugingham Palace’ being chosen.

The Mediterranean style garden bed took seven months to create and is currently the largest bed in the village.

Josh Salter, Production Supervisor at Hingston Down quarry said, “We are proud to support such a great project, which has brought the community together and provides a beautiful and accessible space for all in the village to enjoy.”

Plants include Cherry, Olive, Weeping Pear, Mediterranean Herbs and a variety of succulents and grasses.
