Shardlow Quarry assists British Army with material sampling
In November Shardlow quarry received a request from the British Army for some help. The 530 Specialist Team Royal Engineers based at Chilwell Barracks in Nottinghamshire, carries out construction operations for the 66 Works Group within the Royal Engineers and they requested assistance with getting UKAS accreditation for sampling construction materials from stocks. The army do not hold stocks themselves and asked if Heidelberg Materials would allow them to sample some materials from our stocks, by their staff, whilst being assessed by a UKAS Assessor.
Quarry manager, Paul Lagram says, “We were happy to oblige, so once risk assessments had been completed, a stage managed area was cordoned off to allow sampling to by carried out. All persons were in full hi-viz ppe as per Heidelberg Materials requirements for the actual sampling and assessing session, however, we arranged for some stage managed sampling with the Army lads in their fatigues dress. Unfortunately, due to security reasons, we are not allowed to name the Army lads in the photo, but our thanks go to the Sargent in charge for the initial request and assisting.”
