Barton quarry stars on screen
Barton quarry and concrete plant in Staffordshire is to feature in a children’s TV programme showing how concrete is made.
A production team visited the site in May to put together a short film for the second series of Do You Know?, a science and engineering programme for the CBeebies network which looks at how everyday things from a dishwasher to lock gates work.
Presenter Maddie Moat followed the process from quarry to lorry via the on-site concrete batching plant and looked on as the finished product was delivered to a nearby construction site.
Aggregates unit manager Dominic Hodgson guided the film crew through the sand and gravel extraction process before handing over to concrete operations manager Matt Jarvis to show how the raw materials are mixed and despatched.
The seven-minute programme will be broadcast in the autumn on CBeebies, the BBC television network for children aimed at encouraging learning through play.
