Asphalt donation completes new community hall
Asphalt from our Batts Coombe quarry has been donated to complete a new community hall in Upper North Street.
The team at Batts Coombe supplied the 166 tonnes of asphalt needed to resurface the car park at the facility, which is adjacent to Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church in the village. It has now opened to host community events including toddler groups, Tai Chi, bridge, art and choir groups.
Asphalt from the quarry was supplied over two days to create a smooth, durable surface to complement the new hall.
Bob Vale, treasurer and project manager of Cheddar Catholic church hall committee, said: “After completing the construction of the new hall, we thought we would have to wait until funds were available before tackling the poor condition of the car park. So, we were thrilled when Heidelberg Materials’s team at Batts Combe confirmed a donation of sufficient asphalt and transport to complete resurfacing work on the whole car park.”
Batts Combe unit manager Simon Parkes added: “We were delighted to help with the finishing touches on this project, which provides a fantastic facility for the community of Cheddar.”
