Team takes up volunteering offer

A cement laboratory team are the first to take up the offer of a volunteering day, one of the new measures in this year’s expanded health and wellness strategy.

They are helping out at The Forge Project, a charity centre that provides food and support services to around 60 homeless and vulnerable people in north Lincolnshire every day.

Manager of the Scunthorpe laboratory, Simon Foxall, said their five weeks of volunteering started in September.

“Three of us are going in every Friday to do anything they need help with, like preparing meals or sorting donated items,” said Simon.“We have also started a clothing donation bank in the lab for them, and are doing a collection to help buy more fresh food as they struggle to get what they need.”

Head of sustainability Marian Garfield congratulated the 15-strong team on their efforts. “This is a great example of people in our business using the volunteering day to support a great local charity. Well done Scunthorpe,” said Marian.
